How can I help?

While I know that not everyone wants to move to a developing country to work in microfinance, there are ways that you can participate in this adventure with me without dealing with the hassles of inconsistent electricity. You can support my efforts now, and I will keep you in the loop as I blog from the field. Your financial support is making the entire experience possible and I will help you to see the difference you’ve made by sharing stories about the people I’ve met, the effect of microfinance I’m seeing, and miscellaneous discomforts and achievements that are a part of daily life in the developing world.

The costs of moving abroad and working on a volunteer basis are expansive, and include such items as:

  • Plane tickets
  • Vaccinations
  • Anti-malarial drugs
  • Visas
  • Research Materials
  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Communication
  • Apparel

Costs of the fellowship include:

  • $24 for transportation to and from the Microfinance Institution’s office for one month
  • $36 for one mosquito net
  • $100 for a visa to enter the country
  • $125 for the required Yellow Fever vaccinatio
  • $400 for a roof over my head for one month
  • $1971.30 for a round-trip plane ticket from Washington DC to Dar Es Salaam

My fundraising goal is $12,425. Any help you are able to provide to move me towards that goal is vastly appreciated! With your support and my on-the-ground presence, we can work together to help alleviate poverty in the developing world.
